My name is Red Harlow. I don't feel real comfortable going on about my past, but some of you may ask me later anyway. So here it goes: Seventeen years ago my mother and father were killed by a man named Colonel Daren. Some years later, I had my revenge...taking him down as well as a dirty governor. I'm thirty-two now, but the scar on my right hand still reminds me of that day. A lot of things have changed since then, I don't tend to be real cheerful, and I'm not real talkative. Now you know.

thegunslingerslament: red-dead-confessions: It always bugged me that despite being an illiterate farmer, John used words like “reticence.” I don’t know, I always assumed he was being modest when he said he was semi-literate—I don’t know where besides books he would have picked up some of the words he uses. Bill Williamson gives him a hard time over “implore,” so I assume John learned that somewhere other than from Dutch.
